'Peaches begged me to hide her drug use from Bob': The day after composer James McConnel's son died of a heroin overdose, he got a desperate call from Peaches Geldof

Freddie Tempest
Mr McConnel, pictured centre with his wife Annie and his daughter Daisy at their home in Norfolk, described how his 'brilliant, beautiful son' Freddy, pictured left, died in 2011, aged 18, of a heroin overdose. The promising musician had been friends with Peaches Geldof, pictured right, who was found dead at her home in Wrotham, Kent, in April this year, also having taken heroin. Weeks before Freddy died, he wrote in his diary that Peaches was due to come over and he was going to 'inject for the first time'. Mr McConnel has now told how, after Freddy's death, Peaches phoned Mr McConnel, begging him not to reveal her drug addiction to her own father, Bob Geldof. Mr McConnel said he was angry at the time - but now understands Peaches was 'going through hell'. He said he feels 'desperately sorry' for Peaches' family. Mr McConnel has worked for Addicts' Symphony, a set-up which helps drug and ALCOHOL ADDICTS who used to be musicians.
