Ann Maguire, 61, was killed at Corpus Christi Catholic College in Leeds on Monday.
Chair of governors Martin Dowling said Mrs Maguire was currently working four-day weeks in preparation for her retirement in September.
Flowers and messages have been left at the school's gates while former pupils attended a special church service for the "inspirational" teacher.
Earlier it was confirmed a post-mortem examination had shown the 61-year-old died of multiple stab wounds and that the 15-year-old suspect remains in custody.
Mr Dowling added: "Ann was a wonderful, dedicated teacher and will be remembered fondly by all of us.

"She had taught at Corpus Christi for 40 years and touched the lives of many people in the local community, having also taught the parents of some of our current pupils."
West Yorkshire Police Det Supt Simon Beldon confirmed the suspect will be questioned by police at "at some point" on Tuesday.
"Given his young age, this is a process which needs to be handled very sensitively, and may take some time to complete."

Speaking after a Mass at Corpus Christi Church, former pupil Stephanie Pemberton said: "I'm glad they have done something in memory of her, she gave so much to so many people.
"She was an incredible woman she came in on Saturdays to try to get us through our GCSEs."
