Cowell, poised to return to TV screens with Britain’s Got Talent, has since seen his previously ordered life altered by the arrival of Eric – but he wouldn’t have it any other way.
‘Everyone said, ‘It must be turning your life upside down’ but I love it,’ he admitted. ‘The dogs are mad and Lauren is not exactly the most quiet person in the world.’
Another person who wouldn’t have it any other way is mother Julie, who had good reason to believe she would never have a grandchild from Cowell prior to his shock announcement last July – and the mogul admits she was emotional after seeing her grandson for the first time.
While Eric was a surprise choice – Cowell named him after his late father – he says Lauren was the driving force behind the decision.
‘Even though Lauren had never met my dad she knew my relationship wi5th him and felt quite passionately that he should be named after my dad. I thought that was sweet,’ he said.’
News of Lauren’s pregnancy came at the right time for Cowell, who admits he was suffering from depression prior to hearing that he was to be a father.
Fresh outlook: The arrivalk of baby Eric has helped life Cowell out of the depression he says he suffered prior to hearing that he was to be a father
‘I feel happy,’ he told Colin Robertson of The Sun. ‘I seem to have got my mojo back again. My life has changed.’
Having welcomed Eric, Cowell says h’d be open to the possibility of even more children with Lauren in the future.
‘I wouldn’t rule anything out right now,’ he said. ‘I think from here on in I am not predicting anything. I think the important thing this year is we have fun.’
