Jesus! Christ The Redeemer selfie takes some beating

THERE are selfies and there are selfies – and this is a selfie like no other on the planet.

Travel company boss Lee Thompson managed to get special permission to climb to the top of the Christ The Redeemer statue in Brazil – and took a pic of himself at the summit, 130 feet up.
The 31-year-old is just one of a few people who have been lucky enough to climb to the top of the iconic Brazilian landmark, and it took him nearly an hour and a half to make the dangerous trek.
With just one misplaced step, Lee could have had a nasty injury.

“It is the most fun selfie I've taken and one of my favourite photos”

The co-founder of travel firm The Flashpack said revealed: "It was extremely hot, eerily quiet and claustrophobic. It was really quite scary.
"The last bit sees you climbing a tiny, very tight staircase and if you fall, you fall a long way."
But the climb was worth it in the end, with Lee describing what he saw below him as "incredible".
He said: "When I popped my head out of the top it took my breath away.

"The view really was incredible. It is the most fun selfie I've taken and one of my favourite photos.
"Everyone says it is crazy and it makes them feel sick just looking at it.
"I have had lots of messages from Brazilians who say it is something they have always wanted to do.
"Very few people have ever been able to do it."
It makes those selfies in shop changing rooms seem slightly less impressive...
