Big chill set to plunge areas of Britain down to -3 degrees

BRITAIN is braced for a two-week Arctic blast from the end of this week.

The mercury could plummet to -3C as biting winds come in from the North Pole, say forecasters.
Freezing blasts will leave Britain shivering and the windchill factor will even take parts of the north down to -5C, while the south will see overnight lows close to freezing.
There could be a dusting of snow over the hills in the far north of England and Scotland by Thursday – the first day of May.
“It is turning quite a lot colder during Thursday behind a cold front”

Thunderstorms are expected elsewhere, making for a freezing wash-out for the bank holiday weekend.
Leon Brown, forecaster at The Weather Channel, said: “It is turning quite a lot colder during Thursday behind a cold front.
“There could be some snow over the Scottish Highlands on Thursday morning, with heavy rain downpours and thunder over central and southern Britain on Thursday.
“Friday will feel quite a lot colder over the south in moderate to fresh north-east winds.”
