Chris Brown's mother and Karrueche Tran make sombre show of support at Washington DC court for rapper's assault trial

Chris Brown is on trial in Washington DC for allegedly assaulting a man who asked to have a photograph taken with him last year.The 24-year-old's family arrived on Friday to the Columbia Superior Court in a show of support for the troubled rapper, who could face more jail time if he is found guilty.
Looking sombre Brown's mother Joyce Hawkins and his on-off girlfriend Karrueche Tran stepped into court for his first day of trial hearings.

Wearing a brightly coloured blouse, the hip hop star's mother donned a dark trench coat and matching skirt as she appeared to be in a pensive mood.

Following close behind was Karrueche dressed all in black as she bundle up in a raincoat, a big departure from her normally risque fashion sense.
After serving jail time in Los Angeles, Brown was taken in the custody of US Marshals who transported the rapper across the country in a convict vehicle.
The artist is facing a misdemeanor assault charge. Chris was accused of hitting a 20-year-old man who was trying to take a picture with him outside the W Hotel.
In late March a Washington judge authorized federal marshals to bring the Grammy winner to court.
If convicted in the DC case, Brown could be sentenced for up to four years in prison.
On Thursday the alleged victim testified in the misdemeanor assault case against Brown's bodyguard Christopher Hollosy.
Parker Adams says he suffered a broken nose and other injuries to his face after he was struck with back-to-back punches by Brown and Hollosy outside the W Hotel in Washington, D.C., in October.
Adams told a District of Columbia Superior Court that he and two female friends had approached Brown, who agreed to have his photo taken with the two young women.
When Adams tried to get in the photo, he testified that Brown made a homophobic remark, allegedly telling him 'I'm not into that gay shit.'

The verbal confrontation escalated and Adams testified he was punched below the nose by Brown.'As I put my dukes up, that's when the bodyguard stepped in between us and he slugged me in the face,' Adams said.

Brown and Hollosy have pleaded not guilty.

Defence attorney Bernie Grimm told the court that Adams was seeking to make money off the incident and had filed a $3 million lawsuit against Brown and his bodyguard.Brown was jailed last month after violating his probation when he was dismissed from a facility where he was receiving court-ordered treatment related to his 2009 assault of his then-girlfriend, singer Rihanna.
Since the 2009 sentence, Brown has been involved in altercations with rapper Drake and his entourage in a New York nightclub and R&B singer Frank Ocean in a Los Angeles parking lot.
