Plans for the loved-up couple’s engagement have been under way as their relationship grew.
But defence sources have revealed the soldier prince may have to return to frontline duty because of a shortage of Apache helicopter pilots there.
The 29-year-old royal took an Army desk job in January so he could be near his girlfriend.
His society pals were even planning the stag do – warning Harry that he would have a “hangover for a week”.
But with the threat of the prince’s return to Helmand looming over her, Cressida, 25, has told him he will have to wait before proposing.
“Harry has made it clear he is besotted and that he would love to pop the question”
A close friend
A close friend of the society beauty said: “Harry has made it clear he is besotted and that he would love to pop the question.
“But with the prospect of him being called back to Afghanistan, all plans are off.
“Cressie has yet to make up her mind about what she wants to do.”
The news will comes as a big blow to Harry, who has invited Cressida to move into Kensington Palace and host official events with him.
His regiment is preparing to embark on a final 12-week tour of Afghanistan. And sources say that because 3 Regiment Army Air Corps is 40% short of senior crew trained to fly Apache helicopters, that could mean Harry back in the pilot’s seat by the end of the month.
Buckingham Palace refused to comment last night on the reports.
