Israel stalls over second ceasefire deal as shells continue to rain down on Gaza

A Hamas spokesman said the truce went into effect at 2pm local time (11am GMT) on Sunday ahead of a Muslim holiday. The ceasefire is the second in two days after Israel responded to rocket fire during the previous lull with air strikes. Yesterday, as Gaza fell silent for the first time in 19 days, scores of bodies were pulled from the rubble in Gaza City raising the overall Palestinian death toll to 1,050 amid howls of protests from pressure groups around the world.
