Asteroid the size of a bus grazes past Earth - coming even closer than the moon - just days after astronomers discovered it

Despite the majority of impacts occurring in water and high up in the atmosphere, a number have taken place on land. Pictured, an illustration of an asteroid on its way to Earth
The recently-detected asteroid HL 129 was closer to Earth than the Moon on its closest approach at 4.13am on Saturday.
